Physical Change
It is a change where no new substance has been formed. There is also no alteration of its composition. This type of change changes only in state or phase (melting, freezing, vaporization, condensation, sublimation).

Evidences:
1. This type of change changes in appearance, physical state
2. Change in shape, texture , size, etc.

Examples:

  • when ice melts
  • breaking a glass
  • dissolving sugar in water

Chemical Change
It is a change where a new substance has been formed. In this type of change, the substance is altered chemically. This change is irreversible.

Evidences:
1. Permanent change of color is observed
2. Formation of the precipitate
3. Production of gas
4. Change in temperature

Examples:

  • rusting of iron
  • cooking an egg
  • combustion (burning) of wood
